Officially one of us

This is Kate, one of my colleagues at Spinach. If she's looking rather pleased with herself, it's because she's just become a UK citizen.

I think it's quite lovely that Hackney Council have marked the occasion with goodies. Particularly the bag, it's just fantastic. The passport holder is nice but a bit more sombre.

P.S. One of the things I really admire about Kate is her lack of dither.  Yesterday afternoon she said "I fancy having a blog, but I don't know what to write about".  By the end of the day she'd not only found her point, she's got her blog up & running.

Brilliant!

I'm absurdly pleased. I've had an email from my grandparents telling me to keep writing in my BLOG book because my grandma quite enjoys reading it.

Fraternal pride

South Northumberland vs Bromley in the Cockspur Cup final.

Monday was a very special day. it was brilliant (though very tense) being able to listen to commentary of the first half on live streaming. But it was something else altogether being able to bunk off work for a few hours to watch most of the second innings and along with my parents & grandparents (my grandfather once played for Yorkshire second team) to see my brother take the big wicket.

South North were the underdogs but somehow always had the psychological advantage - helped in no small part by their vocal band of supporters. It never fails to amaze me how much of competitive sport is a matter of psychology as much as it is skill.

We are ganning to HQ!

So said the message from my brother this evening.  It's really rather exciting, he and his team South Northumberland have just won their semifinal of the Cockspur cup. which means they get to play the final at Lords next week. 

It's been a tense few weeks as the semi-final has been rained off twice. I'm sure they'd love to win, though for my brother at least, getting to the final was the real prize.
