Worn shoes

This morning my husband declared these shoes beyond repair (this is a big deal, he hates waste). They have been resoled twice and polished many, many times. He's had them two and a half years. I know this because they are the shoes he bought to get married in.  We can't help but wonder whether there is a parallel between the worn shoes and our marriage. We've looked, but not found one - we're planning to outlast many more shoes.
