Is the first post always this hard?
I have been meaning to start a blog for quite a while now, but true to form have been getting distracted by fieldwork. I have happily frittered hours exploring the world of blogging - seeking inspiration and getting a sense of the etiquette. It's been informative but also somewhat crippling. I've had to force myself to just get started, stop worrying about what others are doing and write anything.
One thing that has struck me on these travels has been how few blogs from qual researchers I have come across. I would have thought that we would make natural bloggers because we tend to be compelled to communicate our thoughts, discoveries and ideas.
Perhaps as a type, qual researchers also tend to be very busy, prone to the Luddite and easily distracted - though I'm probably overgeneralising from my own excuses. It's more likely that I just haven't been looking in the right places yet.
Anyway, hopefully this blog will continue and evolve in a positive fashion and doesn't just become something I can't look back at without cringing.
